Frequently asked questions
Using Augmap
What is Augmap?
Augmap is a collaborative platform for location decisions, like where to move, retire or go to college. Describe what matters to you in your AI assistant, and Augmap puts real places on a map you can save, share and work on with others.
How does Augmap work?
Augmap connects to your AI assistant and turns its answers into a map of real places, drawn from Augmap’s own database of 14.9 million places. Instead of a paragraph of suggestions, you get options you can see, check and compare. Tell your assistant what matters to you: where you’re going, who’s coming, what you want to do and the places you want to visit. Each stop on the map is given a place card with details, and your feedback on recommendations improves future ones.
Can ChatGPT make a map?
Yes. With Augmap connected, ChatGPT can build an interactive map of real places anywhere in the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. Augmap works the same way in Claude, Hermes, Instinct and Muse. Setup instructions are at augmap.ai/build-my-map.
How do I add Augmap to my AI assistant?
Setup instructions for Claude, ChatGPT and Hermes are at augmap.ai/build-my-map. In Instinct and Muse, give the assistant the Augmap address: mcp.augmap.ai/mcp and it connects on its own. Augmap also works in any web browser at trip.augmap.ai.
Does Augmap work in my state?
Augmap covers 14.9 million places across all 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. Alaska and Hawaii are not yet covered.
What can I use Augmap for?
Augmap works for any plan or decision where location matters:
- Trips: from an afternoon of errands to a multi-week road trip
- Family moves: narrowing neighborhoods together before anyone books a flight
- Retirement: choosing a town near the grandkids, healthcare and the amenities you love
- College search: mapping campuses, visit routes and recreation options nearby
I’m relocating. How do I compare prospective neighborhoods in a place I’ve never visited?
With Augmap connected, ask your AI assistant to map the neighborhoods you’re considering along with what matters to you, like the commute to a new office, parks or a good grocery store. Augmap lays the options out on one map, so you can see how each neighborhood fits your life before you ever visit.
Can I rearrange my days and stops?
Yes. In Augmap you can add days, reorder stops within a day, move stops between days and remove anything you’d like. The map updates as you go.
How do I explore new places on my map?
Use Explore on any Augmap map to browse nearby places by category, like Outdoors, Food & dining, Lodging, Culture, Drinks and Shopping. Switch between All, Saved or a single category to control what appears, or use the search bar to look for something specific. Pins are matched to what you’ve told your AI assistant and drawn from Augmap’s own place search. Find something good? Add it to your map, or to a specific list (e.g. favorites).
Can I open my Augmap map in Google Maps or Apple Maps?
Yes. Open a day and tap Navigate at the top of it to send that day’s stops to the navigation app of your choice. To go to a single place, tap Navigate on its place card.
Saving maps and accounts
Do I need an account to use Augmap?
No. You can start planning right away without signing up. An unsaved map lives only at its link and can be edited for 7 days; after that it’s view-only until you save it to an account. To save it, create an account, and Augmap emails you a one-time code to log in.
Is Augmap free?
Yes. Free accounts include 3 saved maps with unlimited sharing, 3 saved lists and a connection to your own AI assistant. Paid plans are coming soon; details at augmap.ai/pricing.
How do I save a map?
Tap Save map at the end of your map’s list, under the overview or any day. Saved maps live in your account under Your maps, each with its own link, and you can open them from any device. On a map someone shared with you, Save map saves a copy to your account.
What happens if I don’t save my map?
An unsaved Augmap map can be edited at its link for 7 days. After that it’s view-only until you save it. It won’t appear in Your maps, and anyone with the link has the same access you do.
How do I manage my Augmap account?
Click your initials at the top right. From there you can open Your maps, adjust Profile & settings, delete your account or sign out. To log back in, enter your email address and Augmap emails you a one-time code.
